Unacknowledged is the story of Callie Faulkner, a gifted engineer who works for Zephyr Watkins, a large defense contractor in Washington, DC. Callie’s client is the Navy Experimental Warfare Team (NEWT), a secretive organization that only uses engineers who make it through a tortuously demanding selection process. Over the past 15 years Callie has risen to become NEWT’s Deputy Director, but when she is abruptly dismissed from this powerful role, her life is thrown into disarray. Believing she has been betrayed, but with no real leads, she begins to investigate and, despite being stonewalled by friends and former colleagues, she uncovers a far deeper conspiracy than she could have anticipated, bringing to light old traumas and threatening to explode into violence. As she falls deeper into the morass Callie realizes that only she can stop the immoral threat by working with others she doesn’t fully trust at the possible cost of everyone she loves.
